Getting to Know Me

I’m Ruth, and I’m so glad you’re here!

As a spiritual director, I accompany others in their life of faith, helping you dust for the fingerprints of God in your life.  I see spiritual direction as a form of hospitality, creating and holding space where it is safe for you to be welcomed and present as your truest self.

I grew up in a Christian home, quickly learned all the right answers, and discerned a call to ministry in high school.  As I experienced more of life, I had to learn to lament, question God, and get comfortable with Mystery we can’t fully understand.  Through a variety of sometimes painful experiences–many of them because I was in ministry–I am learning to rest in my belovedness and not what I know about God or do for God.

I’ve served as a pastor in the United States, served cross-culturally both in the U.S. and in Asia, and held roles that required support raising.  Meeting with my own spiritual director has helped me through seasons of joy, heartbreak and transition, and seeing her is an important spiritual practice for me.  Observing the church year, practicing a sabbath, walks along Lake Michigan, and breath prayers are also some of my current practices.

I love things that are beautiful and foster connections: reading and writing, photography and watercolor, cooking and sharing food with friends, and camping and hiking.

I’m on a continual journey to be anti-racist, affirming of all bodies, and trauma-informed.
